Before the late king's wake necessitated her arrival, the last time she'd been at the Red Keep felt like a lifetime ago. She had merely been a child back then, clinging to Septa Annara's heavy skirts, but she remembered that the city had already been as crowded as it was now. The Red Keep had been the same as well, except for this sense of unease lingering in the air, so thick one could almost taste it. For this reason, Elaena had not been particularly enthused by the idea of returning to her chambers, after spending the better part of the morning out and about.
But return she did -- it had only been a question of when after all, not if she would return at all -- well into the afternoon. Inside the rooms she had been provided, the Tyrell's fourthborn cleaned herself up, changing into a forest green dress more comfortable and befitting of her status. Golden thread accented the hems and sleeves, formed into small rose patterns.
The small council was likely have adjourned by now, and although she had yet to speak to either of her brothers after the wake, her attendants informed her that neither lordling has returned yet. And here Elaena was, thinking she'd be the one they'd be searching for. Surely, they would turn up eventually. They needed to have a family discussion. There was also the matter of their father, who had not been sighted either.
With a soft sigh, the young lady raised her eyes to view herself on the Myrish mirror as a family attendant smoothed down her hair, making the last adjustments to her headband. "Would you see if Lady Lannister might join me for afternoon tea?" She asked, rising to her feet only after the servant had left the room to do her lady's bidding. Another servant began to prepare for the aforementioned tea in the adjoining receiving room, laying out cakes, fruit, tea, and wine on the round table for Elaena and her guest.
It had been three years since Elaena left Casterly Rock; and the same since she last saw her aunt. They'd parted as Lady and attendant; now the disparity of their standings was by far more narrow than it had been. She supposed that despite the amount of growing up she'd done at Morella's side, the years after her return to Highgarden had been kind to her. Despite her youthful appearance, Elaena wasn't ashamed to face her aunt as a grown lady.
A knock on the door. After one last glance at the mirror, she entered the receiving room, pace undisturbed as she walked to pull the door open with an expectant smile.
