Yesterday might have been the departed King's wake, and while the people grieved, business must go on. It was probably more out of necessity than stoicism that the traders of King's Landing were up early, paying more attention to their wares and potential income rather than to their dead ruler. One cannot eat prayers and tears, after all; and enough time had been spent on that at the wake. With the majority of the Seven Kingdoms' highborn concentrated in the city, there was plenty of coin to be made by all manner of merchants and thieves.
Of course there was one other reason why a merchant might try to generate as much resources as possible. Something only a few people have put into words, yet it hung over their heads all the same. Despite the cheerful calls for attention to their wares, there was an undercurrent of uncertainty. That was why the council was convening today.
Elaena's presence was not required at the keep -- nor had she expected it to be, being dead last among her siblings in succession to the seat of Highgarden. Hence she had time to be out of the keep, walking the streets of the capital accompanied by a knight of the Reach whose imposing frame ensured some distance between the lady and the people who walked around them. The provisions for the trip home, whenever that will be, have already been arranged with the relevant suppliers. She was just strolling now, really, although from time to time she glanced at the stalls, doing a brief comparison of goods and prices with what she could recall from Oldtown's markets.
They'd reached Cobbler's Square. Quite a distance from the Red Keep, but Elaena didn't feel like going back just yet; there wasn't much to do there that didn't feel like there were prying eyes on her. What to do, what to do... She gave the Street of Silk a curious glance, but her guard's quick objection to that idea made her settle for somewhere else.
"Shall we rest here for now?" Elaena gestured to an inn just off the square. She'd asked a question but did not wait for a response, pushing the door open to survey the interiors. After both found it acceptable, they sat themselves at a table and waited for an attendant to approach them. The knight would have preferred to stand sentinel behind his charge, but Elaena wasn't having it; they've already attracted enough notice as it was. They made quite the pair; a strongly built man with his light armor and sword who deferred to the will of a young lady who, despite having dressed simply, possessed brown tresses so long that she couldn't be anyone who performed hard labor.
