[attr="class,"bioentry"]It is beyond question that House Tyrell had set high standards for its members, and Elaena has tried to demonstrate that she lives up to them time and again. In both appearance and manner, she presents herself as a refined and sweet-tempered young lady. Her words are well-considered and polite, which is a good thing because she's inclined to be sarcastic when stressed, cultivated from years of dealing with difficult people and demands without cracking. That is not to say that she is no longer the youth whose tears came forth easily; she had just learned to keep it private. She's very accustomed to the comforts and luxury of the conditions she was raised in, but has no qualms about interacting with those of lower status so long as they don't intend to do her harm and her guards are nearby. [break][break] Elaena also tends to have high expectations of her fellow highborn, same as those pushed onto her. As for her own high expectations of herself, she is easily frustrated when unsuccessful at her endeavors, but is perfectly willing to try another method, or step back and let someone else handle it for her. [break][break] Despite having been proven perceptive and capable within her areas of responsibility, and possessing a firm (though muted) will, Elaena displays a marked lack of ambition. Unlike her siblings, she has never tried deviating from the path her birth had set for her, even though she seems to have found her peace and a measure of freedom within those confines. If asked why that is, her answer would be the love for her family, something that years of struggle under their expectations or distance from home could not change. Because of that love, she let the silken shackles of family and highborn obligations wrap around her limbs, holding her where she is right now. [break][break] Lastly, the young lady isn't unaware of her charms, physical, economic, or political; however, marriage is not in her priorities at the moment, and does not cross her mind often. While she has accepted that eventually her family members will arrange a beneficial match for her, she would prefer to at least be included in the decision-making process. In the meantime, she lets herself enjoy the admiration of the knights and lords who come to Highgarden, though she never exchanges anything more than smiles and words with them. [attr="class","bioheader"]history. [attr="class,"bioentry"]The Tyrells' fourthborn was brought into the world squalling into the night. One of the more superstitious septas said that it was a sign of the infant's temper, and they weren't too far off the mark. The child seemed to cry so easily; whether it was a small scrape from a fall or a prank she didn't like, the tears fell. Septa Annara, who had been charged with Elaena's care at the time, thought that it was a reaction born from the lack of interest that her parents paid their fourth child. But while that had been true in Elaena's very early years, she eventually came to use crying as a means to an end. It was an easy way to get someone to be kinder. The mere sight of her silent tears sent servants running to her side, anxious to know what they could do to make things right again. The few times when she tried hard enough, it had even gotten other people into trouble. [break][break] Aside from that and other childhood follies brought on by curiosity, she'd been a good kid, pleasant to people and obedient to her parents. A Tyrell's education, even for someone who was neither the heir nor the spare, was comprehensive and Septa Annara proved to be quite scrupulous, a trait Elaena would eventually adopt. She was a quick study, and it was in these formative years that she gained awareness of what expectations laid ahead of her as a daughter of a Great House. Those expectations seemed far less compared to that her more distinguished siblings, but by that time being her parents' afterthought was something she had already gotten accustomed to. [break][break] Soon after her eleventh nameday, she was told that it was time to leave Highgarden. Arrangements had been made for her to serve as a companion and attendant to a Lady of another Great House of the realm. Distraught at the sudden command, Elaena had never cried as hard as she did that time, but it was to no avail. The decision did not change. A few days later, she departed from her home with Septa Annara and a few sworn guards. [break][break] Studying under the tutelage of the matriarchs and sometimes their stewards had not been as smooth as her lessons back in Highgarden. The young lady initially struggled with the tasks sent her way, given time, study, and experience she slowly became familiar with the minutiae of running a highborn's household. Her duties also required her to interact with both those within and outside of her status, which fueled her curiosity in a way that never happened back home. Elaena would never admit it, but she also became aware of other things that were not quite related to the reason she was sent out there; things like how to be a good wife to her lord husband, and what men liked. It was information she had never put into practice, but shelved at the back of her mind. [break][break] Within the five years spent away, the crybaby of Highgarden had grown up. The day she left home was one of the last few times anyone had seen her cry. Although previously unmotivated to put in more than a token effort in learning combat and comfortable with just being protected by her guards, she began to train harder after the third time their group got ambushed by rogues while traveling. At the age of fifteen her body started to catch up to the maturity of her age and mind, and she bloomed. [break][break] Elaena finally came home after she was released from service, and was glad to find that Highgarden was, in most aspects, the home she still remembered. Sure, there were unwelcome remarks of surprise here and there about how the youngest Tyrell daughter has changed, and speculation about what she'd done while away, but nothing too unusual... She'd been surprised too, at the things that did change, and that the same expectation of marrying her off for an alliance was, regrettably, still in full strength after all those years. [break][break] She only had her lucky stars to thank that no one had been selected yet, and while that was on the back burner she made herself useful by having a hand in managing the Tyrell household, fully aware that she might be sent off again at a moment's notice, perhaps for good, when it was convenient for the family. That burden which had plagued most of her life seemed to be an unavoidable fate, and... That was fine with her, for now. Being a Tyrell daughter was better than not, and the family had to survive and thrive through the difficult times ahead. [break][break] Growing strong. [attr="class","bioheader"]inventory.
