[attr="class,"bioentry"]Though somewhat young for a man in his position, Marcel presents himself well. He carries himself with a calm elegance and dignified demeanor, though sometimes few words. He is a very learned, patient, and rational man who is never quick to anger or impulsive behavior – but not beyond bringing down the weight of a decisive order or decision when it is called for. Even when engaged in serious conversation Marcel prides himself in remaining level headed and well mannered. [break][break] Marcel cares greatly for his family and the people of Driftmark. He likes to believe that his actions are always of noble intention and this does add an air of self-righteousness to the young Lord. Though he always strives to be level on the surface, Marcel has always had somewhat of a calculating interior and a never-ending thirst to prove himself. [break][break] Marcel is well read and quite worldly. During his many travels, he spent time learning about many other cultures and has used this knowledge to better himself whenever possible. [break][break] [attr="class","bioheader"]history. [attr="class,"bioentry"]As the firstborn son of Lord Edgar Velaryon, Marcellus was groomed from birth to become the next eventual Master of Driftmark. In his early years Marcel read much of his ancestors and the proud ancient heritage that his family carried. The blood of old Valyria ran through this family as much as it did in the Targaryens. One of his forefathers in particular, Corlys Velaryon the Sea Snake, inspired Marcel and influenced his path. Lord Corlys’ mastery of sailing and navigation brought untold wealth back to Driftmark and elevated the entire family. Marcel too wanted to aspire to such goals and learning was the first step.[break][break] During his younger adolescence Marcel was not coddled. Much of the young boy’s time was spent studying shipcraft under some of the Velaryon fleet’s most able sailors and captains. Marcel neither required or wanted any sort of special treatment. The importance of learning every link in the chain of command – being every link, would be important in becoming an effective leader someday. Becoming a man of the sea is not easy work, but the physical strains it put on Marcel slowly made him stronger and more resilient.[break][break] As Marcel grew into a young man it became more then clear to everyone on Driftmark that he was an heir on extreme promise. Lord Valeryon’s own relationship with Marcel only grew stronger as the Lord had become quite proud of his future successor. The young Valeryon was rarely satisfied however. He was always looking to learn more, to better himself, and above all else – to travel. To become a leader of the caliber of Corlys Velaryon from years past, sitting around the vicinity of Driftmark wouldn’t be enough. Finally, with his own ship and crew, Marcel began to depart on a series of journeys from his home to the mainland. During his numerous travels Marcel learned and developed his skills, both physical and mental. He had even become quite the swordsman and often dealt with many pirates on the seas personally. The frequency with which Marcel returned to and left his home on Driftmark coined him the title of Marcellus the Wanderer. Whenever he did find himself at home Marcel always made time for his family, often making sure his young sister Saelyra hadn’t gambled away the family’s gold. Saelyra seemed to yearn to put herself to work at sea and knowing this feel all too way, Marcel always encouraged her to do so.[break][break] Eventually as Marcel reached his late twenties the frequency of his travels decreased. It was time to begin settling down. A journey to Essos had been his planned final odyssey for the time being. Upon Marcel’s return from this journey however, he found himself faced with a new one of even larger importance. Saelyra, who had become quite the merchant sailor by this time, had vanished without a trace on the high seas. Greif stricken at the disappearance of his younger sister, Marcel pledged to find her or at least ascertain her final fate. Lord Velaryon, while also in dismay at the loss of his daughter, knew that sending out a sizable amount of the fleet for this search would leave Driftmark in a possibly precarious situation. Thus it was that Marcel departed with only a handful of ships to search for Saelyra.[break][break] For almost three years Marcel scoured what ground he could in search of his beloved sister. Three years away from home and three years of finding nothing. Unrest began to creep into the kingdoms following the passing of Jaehaerys II. His children had raised conflict with one another and Driftmark’s loyalty was sworn to Dragonstone. Marcel had to quit his search and return home to support his now sickly father and the rest of the family.[break][break] After returning to Driftmark and seeing his father again after several years it became readily apparent to Marcel that Lord Velaryon’s days were unfortunately numbered. He barely had the strength to leave his own chambers in the High Tide Castle, much less govern an entire House. Though Marcel took steps to take care of his father, he passed away in his sleep several days after his son’s return to Driftmark. Plans were made for mourning and burial; however, this tragedy was soon compounded by another crisis. Quellon Greyjoy had come to Dragonstone and the call for aid had been sent. [break][break] The assault on Dragonstone had come at the worst and most inopportune of times. Marcel had only just stepped in his father’s role as Lord of Driftmark and the decision of action now fell squarely on his shoulders. Ten ships would be sent out to sail to Dragonstone’s reinforcement. Marcel himself choose not to take part in the endeavor personally, instead deciding to stay in Driftmark to keep the House in order after his father’s death. [break][break] Quellon Greyjoy’s assault came swiftly and the meager detachment of ships sent by Driftmark were ultimately of no consequence in the larger scheme of the conflict. Driftmark Island now found itself in a dangerous situation, laying in the path of the Ironborn Fleet. [break][break] In the midst of this uncertain time – an interesting development. Quellon Greyjoy had sent for a meeting with the Lord of Driftmark. [break][break] [attr="class","bioheader"]inventory. [attr="class,"bioentry"]Saltfang: [X] A weapon carried by Marcel. Saltfang is a steel sabre crafted on Driftmark. Having a lightly curved edge, this weapon is more suited to maximizing the effectiveness of precision slicing and lacerating. It presents itself with a degree of elegance not usually found in traditional swords or great swords. An elegance that also follows through to its usage as it relies more on finesse then brute strength to handle. The sigil of house Valeryon has been hewn into the scabbard and the hilt guard alike.
