[attr="class,"bioentry"]Ysera can seem a little contradictory when first encountered. She can often be seen wearing elegant dresses and conversing politely, only to drink a man under the table and dance happily out of rhythm a few minutes later. As fierce with the sword as she can be with words, Ysera is known - and by some treasured - for her honesty. It's gotten her in trouble before and she's learned to tone it down when necessary but her family and those close to her only ever get the blunt truth; that's the Stark way, she thinks. [break] Winter Is Coming; there's no soft story wrapped around their motto to take from the truth. Only the harsh reality of it. [break][break] Deep within, Ysera has a gentle soul, though. Her heart goes out to the poor, the crippled and the sick. She's been known to hunt and leave the game in Winter Town for the people to take. Some see it as the Stark's way to try and redeem herself - rumors about her preferences are beginning to spread further than just Winterfell - while others don't question the kindness at all. And if there's never the wound of a sword, arrow or spear on the game but distinct marks of a wolf's teeth, well, then no one questions that either. [break][break] However unlikely, Ysera dreams of someday sharing her life with someone. A woman with the same preferences as her, who she could call "My Lady" and care for, kiss her and howl to her at night from the familiar darkness of the Wolfswood. It's silly and Ysera hates herself for enjoying the childish fantasy but it's the only clear idea of a future she has. The other possibility - being forced to marry a man - is something she only entertains in the darkness of night before slipping into a dog's or bird's skin, into the skin of something that can't cry. [attr="class","bioheader"]history. [attr="class,"bioentry"]Since Ysera's very first night out in the world, she made it clear that she the wolf's blood in her ran hot. Her crying and screaming was loud, deafening, and only ceased when her mother's handmaiden placed Ysera in her bed, right under the silver light of the full moon (this would repeat itself again and again, Ysera only calming once she got a glimpse of the night sky, which earned her the nickname Night Wolf, although she'd later be known as the Snarling Wolf). There was no doubt to her health afterwards and except for her startlingly blue eyes, Ysera was every bit the picture-book northern baby. [break][break] Ysera was a stubborn but not necessarily a complicated child. Although she was very boy-ish and preferred pants to dresses and swords to needles, she never shunned her "lady duties" either. To her, there was nothing wrong with embroidery, calligraphy and etiquette lessons - she simply wasn't as interested in them as the other girls. Luckily for Ysera, her father supported her choices and let her train with the recruits in the yard. He only asked that she commit fully. His firstborn would not receive extra treatment for being a girl during training. Either she'd train like the boys or not at all. And Ysera did, growing stronger and quicker alongside the future warriors of the North.[break] After she returned to the training just one day after having her nose broken by her sparring partner, she never really had to fight for their acceptance. The Northerners valued strength and determination above everything and the Snarling Wolf was nothing if not willing to prove herself. [break][break] Although Ysera loved her mother dearly, she was always closer to her father. She would entertain her mother's dreams of her becoming a true lady only rarely and the older she got, the fewer and farther between her sit-downs with her mother became and eventually, Ysera put down the needle for good. Instead, she spent her days listening in on her cousin Jeren's lessons with her uncle Cassius, who groomed Jeren for lordship while Ysera was the discarded firsborn of the second branch, a woman no less, who'd never wield Ice, she'd never rule anything. She was bitter about that but let her anger fuel her determination to train instead of directing it at her family, whom she knew were not to blame for the injustice she felt she was suffering. [break][break] Perhaps to make up for that, - or whatever may have been the reasoning behind it - the Old Gods graced Ysera with the power of skinchanging. The first time it happened was completely accidental. She'd been starring out of her window, watching a raven on its way into the rookery of Winterfell when suddenly she found herself peering through the raven's eyes. It startled them both and ended with the raven flying against one of Winterfell's towers and Ysera emptying the contents of her stomach onto the floor of her room.[break] After that chaotic first taste of her gift, the Stark began experimenting and soon Winterfell knew that a Warg had been born to the Starks again. Ysera took great pride in her gift and where she'd been a believer in the Old Gods before, she became quite devoted after. [break][break] Once that "secret" (not that she'd done a lot to keep it one) was out, Ysera's confidence grew firmer. At 17 she was a fit and able warrior, skilled with a sword, bow and dagger, blessed by the Old Gods - at least so she'd see and tell it - and clearly not in the line of succession - so she decided to open up about another part of herself as well. [break]Although she never directly addressed it, Ysera began openly flirting with women. There are those whose respect she lost after it became clear that she did not aim to ever share her bed with a man and there were others who stayed by her side either way. Whether out of pure respect for her abilities, because she was a noble and her family had influence or simply because some might not frown on it like others did - the Stark was happier than she'd ever been before. [break][break] While the Targaryens squabble about who is to inherit the throne, Ysera worries about the Winter and whether or not her Uncle and Father will let her be or marry her off anyway. [attr="class","bioheader"]inventory. [attr="class,"bioentry"]Skinchanger - Ysera discovered that she was a skinchanger after her 17th Nameday. She's never kept it a secret and has slowly begun training her ability, believing it to be a gift/a sign from the Old Gods to assure her that the path she's taking is the right one.
