If one were to consider the distance between King's Landing and Storm's End, the idea that a knight of the Baratheon's had never been to the royal capital before was surprising. This was the highest peak that a man of the Andals could hope to reach in their sworn service. To serve in this city was a testament to ones glory as a sworn man. Doran had once dreamed of serving as member of the Kingsguard once upon a time. He had always imagined the great and mighty city, its streets lined with gold and the choirs singing a glorious tune to the storied stones of the ancient stronghold. Looking back, it was a silly and far-fetched interpretation.
King's Landing was indeed a city of grandeur, but only in select areas. The wealth was most certainly not distributed evenly. As Doran explored the city, he found the contrast between the wealthy and downtrodden to be startling in its disparity. Certainly the Storm Lands had its rich and poor, but not to an extent such as this. Doran had wondered if it was always like this, or was simply a result of the current monarchy. Doran could see that the buildings of each district were varying in age and care. Some places in the slums looked to have been built with some grandiose intent, but fell into disrepair. It seemed like an areas wealth could change at any time, and was a more common occurrence with the change of the era.
Doran stepped out of a back alley, having spent most of his time admiring the architecture of the old city. He had noticed many of the commoners giving him various looks as he passed by. Some of admiration, others of intrigue, but most commonly of disgust. Not much care for those with visible wealth it seemed. Not that Doran was particularly rich, but he hid well enough to maintain his armor and weapons, which spoke of some material backing. Enough to make him stand out among the peasantry at least, and that was enough to earn him some ire. He didn't tarry long in those places. Better to keep to the main streets where people wouldn't think to cause any trouble.
The storm knight found himself wandering aimlessly into The Street of Flour. A surprising find to be sure. Streets lined with bakeries and other food industries. It was something Doran had never seen before. A district dedicated entirely to food. Similar to the local market at Storm's End perhaps? Hard to say. More exploration was in order it seemed. Maybe he'd buy Alayne a sweet roll or something as a treat. It was important to enjoy all of King's Landing while they could. Doran was not sure how long they were going to be there, but it seemed like it would be long enough to get his itch for tourism in check.
