The year is 286 AC. King Jaehaerys II has just passed, leaving the throne without a rightful ruler. While his three children fight for the crown, Winter creeps closer, and unimaginable darkness looms.
Not all alliances will be so typical this time. In fact, many people have a crucial effect on the way this story is told. As for the ending, we only hope there are enough people left alive to tell it after its passed.

Join us for our first event, the wake of recently deceased King Jaehaerys II.
Updates
AUG. 19: So we are now officially open to the public. We have a mini-event flashback thread going on, and our main event just began. Feel free to make a second canon if you can keep both of them active enough.
Don't hesitate in pestering staff with questions; it's what we're here for! Let's raise a glass and make a cheer toward a successful launch of Winds of Winter.
basically what the staff team is wondering is how are we doing our job so far for you members and how positive or negative your experience has been so far. along with a few other questions we have for you. Reply below with your answers, and we'll try to make Winds of Winter the best role play out there.
Site experience: how has your time on winds of winter been.
the good: what winds of winter does best for you.
the bad: what winds of winter could do better for you.
suggestions: want us to implement something, want us to make a calendar for the forum, make a shipping cbox? let us know what could make your experience here better.

site experience: Pretty good overall, I've enjoyed it. o3o
the good: Active site, members willing to get involved, generally fun.
the bad: A couple things are a little confusing.
suggestions: Specification would be nice. The big one is death. There really isn't any word on it, and I actually had to ask you to figure out what it was. While this is indeed a Game of Thrones site, it really would be a good idea to specify that death here is purely non consensual (meaning you can be killed at any time and any place), as the last thing we need is someone making a Biter-esque character, barging into an open thread and killing everyone there, only for the players to complain that they had no idea that they could be killed, causing a drama storm.
Another thing is ravens. I can't speak for the show, but ravens are absolutely vital in the books. A little forum for ravens acting as an "instant messaging" board for characters might be neato.
Going off of that, it wouldn't hurt to specify whether we're going with show lore or book lore (as recent developments in season 5 indicate that the show is starting to make up its own stuff, especially with the Others/White Walkers).
death, just like G r r martin I think we are big fans of characters dying, it helps develop other characters and promotes growth. staff team will definetly set up rules on death ( wither its death enabled always or closed threads can be safe havens etc )
ravens, if more members are in support of this, I don't see the problem with adding this. I think its a unique way to write short replies between characters who are far away from each other.
lore, if this line isnt drawn clearly its because of us. forgive us, while we do have traits similar to both, I believe the staff team has setup the plot to follow the book up to a certain point ( as targaryens still sit upon the iron throne) in the lore thread however axin has made many amendments to tie back to the difference between canon Game of thrones and our site.

Site experience: I've had a good time in here. No bad experiences at all, my stay has been very pleasant ^___^ I find the atmosphere quite pleasant. the good: +very welcoming staff +warm environment +very organized +the links are super helpful ;A; +app checking is quite fast and efficient
the bad: -hmm, some of us get confused with some stuff
suggestions: -IC box (aaron has that up gg) -calendar for forum? -timeline (p helpful for ASOIAF sites, so new members understand what's happened).
in-character box, I had a spare cbox so why not use it right? though wither what happens in that box effecting the role play itself needs to be decided. though it defintly great for fleshing out characters and getting an idea about what you wish to rp. I plan to get a link on the cbox up for everyone once we solidfy some rules for it.
calendar, playing with precise dates could be a pain in the butt, however having unique months that define each passing month we spend on the role play would be fun and interesting, saying you met x during y month etc.
timeline, we have a general one made but I think us staff can develop and solidify a proper time line for everyone. perhaps start marking current events / big threads on the time line as well!

site experience; i mean, me gusta.
the good; organization, adherence to sense / lore, atmosphere, lots of things
the bad; i'd be nitpicking
suggestions; ravens sound good as a substitute for an IM board.
also wondering something about holding canon activity. i don't think they should require like weekly maintenance (given how many canons there are, plus some members take a while but they're still around) but maybe also clarification on what happens when a canon is lost. because i don't think they should necessarily die if they haven't been very involved, just reset.
timeline in the sense that we know how many years the targaryen rule has been established. not as important but maybe where we start to diverge from lore? like with what generation, though that might involve a lot of name-dropping. also perhaps a timeline of important IC events that people can add to such as houses forming an alliance, a marriage occurring, tourneys that happen, characters dying—things that word would be spread about (edit: yea what aaron basically said)
there's still that spelling mistake in the welcome message guys please ;__; OCD
canon activity, our rules have a brief explanation of this but I think we can setup a better explanation after this feedback. staff pretty much have the power to null/kill/make someone disappear if they are inactive. I imagine based on how much they role-played influenced the site would be what happens. i.e. a targaryen who never posts can be easily replaced and pretended to have never existed compared to a lord who role played for several weeks then poofed. we'll get these rules concrete for you.
timeline, just a matter of making the time-line our own compared to whats been pre established / what we like. it will come I promise.

FEEDBACK DISCUSSION
LETS MAKE WINDS OF WINTER EVEN BETTER
suggestions:
a list for bastards and lesser houses. I imagine either of those could be useful for certain situations. for example lord Tully has two bastard sons he could legitimize, but only one non-bastard one. in universe people know that, but ooc schemers might just not know it from the get-go without reading the bastard's apps. just might be neat who these bastards are from, which also ties into the lesser houses having a list there could help people who want to make characters of lesser houses to get clear about their family ties - especially when it comes to members of lesser houses that became ladies of great houses. just suggestions tho.
bastard list, I think creating a list of all known bastards is a great idea and it wouldn't take staff very long to get one up to speed with our current bastard count. I believe it would be very helpful to list them by region, as we do for lesser houses. Speaking of which, we actually already have a list up for lesser houses here.
the seasons in asoiaf are strange and unpredictable and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to include what the current season is on the site (if it already hasn't been??). Seasons play an important role in the production of a region and even politics and in posts it would be nice to know how to describe the landscape of an area as per the season currently in westeros. This is something that could be easily combined with the calendar idea, perhaps also showing 'x' amount of seasons that have come before the current one or something.
