PUREBORN QUEEN OF QARTH
A Pureborn. A Queen. Due to the untimely death of her eldest brother, she took his place in his governing seat as the next pureborn in line of her family. She already had riches, fame, armed men and slaves. Now, she sits on top of the pyramid as the monarch of Qarth.
Her childhood was simple, sing songs and be merry. Her family are also spice merchants. With the nature of the industry, she has seen the slaver's bay a number of occasions and befriend them to the horror of her parents. She had been to Westeros only twice. Once on business, another to attend some highborn wedding. There was a time where she traveled to find a suitable mate for her hand in marriage. It only took her the second time to realize the injustice of marriage and was not particularly fond of the boring ceremonial bits either. There were also a times where she witnessed traumatic events: burning people for the red God, a Dorthraki barbaric wedding. Of course, she was assured that she did not have to participate in that culture, in that life. She could have a refined and dignified life as a pureborn. With slaves to attend to her every need, and the best market to get all the things she ever wants. Yet, she did not become spoiled living her privileged life. Her brother taught her to cherish the small things, to wonder about the intangible, and live an honest life. She was young and impressionable, so it did not take a lot of convincing on his part.
Reluctant to take up the position that belonged to her brother, she would irresponsibly dip out of the Thirteens meetings. She would take walks and talk to civilians instead. Learning about what stories they have to say. She blames her apathy on the moon cycle. She disliked the lack of sense and logic that stemmed from their game of make believe. She grew impatient with her fellow politicians. Why were there rules when nobody followed them? She felt constrained and unable to do what was right for Qarth. Merchants only prioritized their own business, not the city or it's inhabitants. Of course, the encouragement of the people is what powers her to set things right.
As a young queen, Qarth began to descend into civil unrest as tension between the merchants and the Pureborn rose. It started when merchants were mysteriously being killed by what people suspect to be the Sorrowful Men. The merchants blamed the Pureborn and began organizing against them. Then, the situation escalated when slaves belonging to mostly low earning civilians and a few Pureborns were bought out by high ranked merchants to be sold again. Civilians of the city began to demand the Thirteen to punish these merchants for stealing their property. Little did they know that the merchants were under the protection of the Thirteen's wealth. The Pureborns began placing restrictions on the doors to Qarth, only allowing a few slave merchants to pass through. Foreigners could only enter through a Blood Oath. A stranger to the city ignited confusion in the midst of a protest against The Thirteen. Which turned into a riot involving slaves, merchants, and women alike. The riot was so loud that the warlocks from the house of Undying heard and silenced the crowd. Thus, led to the massacre in the merchant square. The warlocks warned the Thirteen that if they continued to play around, there would be no city left. Two of the former members of The Thirteen were missing after, assumed dead. The clean up was slow and long. Riots in the streets would continue until the Pureborns began forcefully controlling the civilians. Eventually, the suspect who started the initial riot was caught. While most of the Pureborns were focusing on the interrogation of alien of Qarth, members of the Thirteen who were responsible for the massacre, ironically, had went into hiding. Impatient and furious by the turn of events, Minka took things into her own hands by gathering a small group of men and slaves to search for the individuals. Then, she closed the gates to Qarth; no one could come in and no one could come out. Eventually, they had no where else to run. So, when she did find them, she had the alien of Qarth, and the Thirteen members, who pledged the Blood Oath, blinded and then, gutted alive by slaves during their meeting. Anyone else involved met a similar fate. The gates would finally open two years later, with newly elected members of the Thirteen under Minka's watchful eye, the city naturally reinvigorated itself.
