Bastard. Mongrel. The blood of House Tully diluted with … something else. Maid. Tavern wench. Or common whore. Cass possesses no memories of his mother’s touch, face, laughter or smell, if he ever had known her. Meaningless, really. His heart only ever had room enough to fit his father, the lord paramount of the Trident. And his twin brother. But that was fine. Practical. Perfect. All others were lesser, weak and contemptuous. Especially his “true-born” siblings. Toothless and mewling, they lack the instinct to bite, bred out of them as if they were lapdogs. But not so with the bastard twins. Their teeth are sharp. Their jaws unyielding. And they do not shy away from the taste of blood. Rather, Cass has always been partial to its bitter tang.

The younger silent brother. His silence penalized in the eyes of others against his twin’s open scheming. Mistaken for a dependent malleable mind. They fail to see the calculating symbiosis behind their relationship. That Cass is his twin’s shadow, his brother Cass’ reflection. Whilst his brother stands at the front, Cass sneaks in from behind, their prey tragically cornered. Both brothers are dangerous, it’s only that Cass is more likely to go unnoticed.

Their father often dangles the promise of legitimacy before their eyes. A prize that often causes Cass to smile. Not because he cares about what others call him by, but because of how delicious it would be for his brother to steal their half-brother’s birth-right from the boy’s weak grabbing fingers.
