The second-born to the Lord of Starfall, Claudius' fate was predetermined by a tradition of knighthood and family pride, which only festered feelings of resentment in the black sheep of House Dayne. His father's powerful position gave him access to a network of connections, and it allowed him to find a suited mentor within Sunspear. Squire to an adviser of the current Lord of Sunspear, the Dayne learned to fight with grace and power, aggressively parrying his foes. His residence in the capital gave him access to the maestar, as well as his knowledge of life, history and poisons; this birthed an obsession with reptiles, human behavior and the curiosity to explore.
As a dedicated and intelligent disciple, he acquired knighthood—the independence he desired to earn a name for himself and put his prowess to the test.
