FRIENDS Jaime wants others to like him, he always has. And whilst independence is a fine thing, little else is worse than loneliness. Fortunately, he’s never struggled to understand others, knowing how to spot a similar or desirable trait. His attitude is rarely depressive, rarely cynical. He doesn’t shy away from being a sympathetic ear or a pillar of support. He even makes an effort to joke and share a smile with those who wander tragically into the Brotherhood’s path. It’s just not that difficult for Jaime to be a nice guy. Though some tend to think him a bit simple for it. Perhaps he is. Simple people don’t get hung up on complicated details. They seeks out simple solutions. They understand simple emotions. Simplicity is comforting. Simplicity isn’t dangerous.
ENEMIES But Jaime is dangerous. He stands for an ideal rejected by the very world: freedom. Not the simplistic freedom of breaking free from one’s commitments either. But true freedom: equality. No kings or queens. No lords or ladies. All beasts being forced to kneel in the dirt together. He isn’t even necessarily fighting to better everyone’s lifestyles – his main interest is in his own. Jaime lives to fight, and to kill. He’s never known a different lifestyle but neither has he any true interest in searching. He isn’t mindless, there’s little fun to be had in cutting down a defenceless peasant. But he’ll do it, if only to quicken his lust for an actual opponent. Worst of all is that Jaime isn’t influenced by his emotions. Anger. Bitterness. Fear. Regret. His thoughts have never been clouded. Except for the euphoria that follows after a kill. He’ll assure you of his regrets, if you wish for it. He’ll assure you of many things, for being a nice guy isn’t a simple thing.
ROMANCE Had Jaime gotten that knighthood, he’d likely have been wed to some maiden with a growing family, surrounded by the beauty of Tarth whilst serving House Baratheon faithfully. Likely, it all would have been quite romantic. Not that there isn’t romance to be had as a dashing rouge. The clichéd bandit with a heart of gold, tormenting the rich to bring about a better tomorrow is quite popular amongst the highborn and the lowborn, and Jaime is very good at playing the part. To be frank, he doesn’t take romance all that seriously. Pleasure is the only importance, not love or reputation or time. He makes this clear to any of his sexual partners. As well as his tastes in both women and men. Sure, Tarth is no more tolerant towards deviancy than any other part of the Stormlands but is Jaime’s open-mindedness in the bedroom all that surprising? After all, the Brotherhood Without Banners seeks to turn the world onto its head.
