When did we build this broken home?

Lydia Frey was the uncanny firstborn child of House Frey. A tomboy by nature, Lydia’s incompatibility with her originally intended upbringing was discovered early. Dogmatic and obstinate, the girl never truly understood or respected her inability to inherit The Crossing. It made her increasingly truculent towards the norm, and this made her even more inclined to participate in the unconventional, whether that be honing her martial skill or hanging around with (and assuming the disposition of as if it were contagious, given her impressionability at the time) her more testosterone laden peers.

What she lacked in raw strength was compensated by her shrewd, conniving, and vicious nature. Early signs of her prowess were displayed when she caught a butcher’s boy stealing a loaf of bread. Despite his considerably larger size and brawn, she still took it into her own hands to reprimand him by beating him to an inch of his life. Surprisingly, it made her father aware of the fruitlessness of raising her to be a lady, and cemented the decision to make use of her calculative, belligerent nature. By no means did her family lack the funds required to purchase armour and weaponry for her, albeit she met a plethora of public adversity for her unconventional ambition.

On this basis, Lydia was eventually sent to King’s Landing. As soon as she was able, she joined the City Watch, where she promptly climbed up the ranks courtesy of the impressive martial skill (heavily specializing in the spear rather than the sword) and efficiency she demonstrated when it came to law enforcement. She may have been rough around the edges, but she rarely showed it; that accompanied by her prowess and highborn status made it possible to be eventually appointed as the Lord Commander of the City Watch by the time she was twenty-eight. Though, regardless of talent, she never could escape the adversity she faced while climbing the ranks thanks to her unconventional gender for her destined occupation.
