POSITIVE - intelligent - cunning - charming - calm - collected - wellspoken - knowledgeable - educated - loving - loyal to family Born to the "Devil of the Sunset Sea", Rorion Greyjoy, Roren is a comparatively calm and well learned young man. While not as savvy on the seas as his father, Roren more than makes up for this with his skills in interpersonal diplomacy, being capable of charming even the coldest heart as well as being able to figure out motives most men, especially those of the Iron Islands, would miss. Reading books his father had collected during his travels overseas, Roren pines for and respects the cultures of those who live in other lands and yearns to experience them for himself. | LIKES - foreign culture - mental challenge - verbal battles - manipulation - dueling An accomplished duelist on the Iron Islands, Roren was forced by his father to undertake fighting classes and extensively studied books about the Braavosi water dancers. Although unable to perfect the art of water dancing through literary explanation alone, Roren has mastered his own style of fencing, one that has proven to be incredibly potent against the brutish and often unrefined fighters of the Iron Islands. At first resentful of having to learn to fight, Roren eventually grew to enjoy it as it was one of the few physical things he could do that offered him the same level of accomplishment as his book learning. DISLIKES - idiocy - ignorance - Ironborn tradition - loud people - Ironborn women Resentful of being stuck on the Iron Islands, Roren has grown to hate many facets of Ironborn culture, including but not limited to the raping, pillaging, women, drunken fools as well as the Drowned Men. Considering most of these things uncouth, Roren truly only tolerates them due to his father who, while being a well traveled man, outwardly respected the traditions of the men that came before him. | NEGATIVE - manipulative - disconnected - calculating - vengeful - apathetic - patient to a fault - critically self aware - false - schemer - resentful - cruel Beneath the veneer of flowery words and educated diction lies a darker side to Roren's personality. Resentful not of his father, but of the Iron Islands for keeping him cooped up for so long, Roren has become a manipulative boy and does all that he can to get himself off of the rock that he considers his own personal hell. While manipulating drunken sailors is no accomplishment to be proud of, Roren has proven to be so well versed in speechcraft that he can manipulate even foreigners into doing what he desires. One weakness of Roren, however, has always been foreign women, of which he struggles to manipulate due to his very real feelings for them. However, if a push were to happen, Roren holds betrayal in the harshest light and will do all he can to make those who betray his family suffer. |

The devil's Son
Though little is known of Roren's childhood by the commonfolk, Roren from an age as early as 6 would confine himself to his room, hoarding books his father had collected from overseas and doing what he could to absorb as much information as possible. Dragged from his room on occasion by Rorion, Roren would be forced to partake in physical activity, an act that kept him fit and also insured he wouldn't be another pampered son of a Lord. Growing to respect his father for being such a well traveled man, Roren developed a deep love for his family, but harbored a deep resentment of the Iron Islands for being comparably boring to the rest of the realm.
In his mid teens, Roren had already been well versed in wielding a sword and, due to the fanatic reading of tales of "water dancers", formed a style of his own that involved parrying, dashing and fencing. At first considered impractical by his father, Roren's obsessive personality led to him training every night in private, perfecting motions and shadow fencing Iron Islanders until he finally asked his father for training. Although their styles could not differ in more drastic ways, being beaten by his father so solidly only reinforced his respect for him even more while spurring him on, learning to defend himself with his body as well as his blade. Many a time he'd parry an attack of his father only to be punched in the stomach, or swept and immobilized in a limb binding torture tactic. Although never truly injured by his father, this lit a competitive fire in Roren's stomach, causing him to take out his desire for victory out on Iron Islanders. Called the "pampered imp of a Devil" by the sailors, Roren would challenge men twice his size to fights and defeat them with ease, striking them precisely and sometimes even wounding their flesh with his blade.
Near the end of his teenage years, Roren had finally closed a gap between he and his father. Although he was nowhere near as physically strong as his father, he had focused on his keen reflexes, adaptable fighting technique and counter style and began being able to strike his father back, often to the surprise (and delight) of his father, proud he had raised a son both well spoken and well versed in fighting. Now, Roren has a new obsession: bringing respect and neutrality back to the Iron Islands. Grooming himself to be an eligible bachelor, Roren has maintained his good looks and has avoided facial scarring, so as to maintain an image of being an innocent and well spoken young man. Where this will lead is unknown, but the lofty heights of Roren's ambition will either lead him to glory or death. There is no inbetween.
