When did we build this broken home?

Ayres was born and abandoned in the north during the warmest season as a babe. She was left in a woven basket near a small farmers' village and was eventually founded and taken in after three days. She was terribly weak and sick when she was taken in, but she miraculously recovered. She grew up with three older brothers and two gentle and loving parents. However, Ayres never felt like she belonged. When she was eight years old, having fought with the youngest brother, a year older than she was, he spat out to her that she was taken in out of pity and that none of them were her real family. At eight years, Ayres didn't know what to make of those accusations, but she went to the only parents she knew, and asked about her origins. Ayres's perception was always quite good, and while they tried to lie to her at first, eventually her father admitted to finding her in the woods while out looking for a lost sheep. From that day on, Ayres kept her distance from everyone. Everyone acted the same and although she saved face by acting like nothing had changed, as her parents insisted, she knew that she wanted to find out who she was, someday. She pretended she was a part of their family, but she knew she wasn't and never would be.

Just after Ayres' sixteenth birthday, a group of soldiers pillaged their town and burned everything into the snow. Ayres was shoved away on one of her brother's horses and escaped on her own in tears. When she returned a few days later, nothing was left but ash. Ayres made her way traveling north toward the wall, at first, but soon she found that everything just reminded her of her last home and that only left her feeling regret.  She has been traveling south since then and won't stop until she's able to find somewhere she can finally feel like she belongs.
