The year is 286 AC. King Jaehaerys II has just passed, leaving the throne without a rightful ruler. While his three children fight for the crown, Winter creeps closer, and unimaginable darkness looms.
Not all alliances will be so typical this time. In fact, many people have a crucial effect on the way this story is told. As for the ending, we only hope there are enough people left alive to tell it after its passed.

Once more, he just had to laugh. Just hearing someone ask so innocently about his sisters betrayed a complete lack of knowledge. It was only natural though. Few people would realize that them not being at the wake meant that Quellon of all people would behave better there – and they had all seen how that worked out. But no, Dalton could not even imagine his sisters sitting still during the wake of a man they did not care about without breaking something. And that was the best case scenario.
So, once more, Ashe made him laugh without wanting to do so or even trying. Despite all the trouble this ploy had brought him, he had to admit one thing – he enjoyed their presence. The two of them certainly made the trip more enjoyable, each in their own way. “Sorry, but my sisters…..they are definitely not like me.” Another chuckle followed his explanation. Heck, his sisters would likely have had their fun with both the highborn ladies already, had they been here.
Still though, when he spoke of them there was a certain level of warmth to his words. Family was family – especially when they did not actively make his life harder, like certain fathers. “They are much harsher than I am. More fixated on the Old Way. Plus, they are a bit crazy towards outsiders, if I am being completely honest. My father may seem mad, but he usually only acts in a very calculated manner. My sisters are more….random? I guess that puts it best. Not everyone in our generation can spearhead anything, after all.”
His laughter brought confusion on the pale wolf's face her head bowed to the side, waiting for an explanation. What had she said that could be so funny as to warrant a laugh? An explanation would quickly come as Dalton talked about his sisters. Born of different mothers but of the same man. It sounded like the three were as different as night and day for while Dalton felt like the cool waves upon the beach, it sounded like his sisters were... well.... something else.
Despite that... she could tell he at least cared for his siblings, as he spoke with a subtle warmth about them. Almost like the way her eldest brother would talk about Ayden at times and vice versa. It made her a bit homesick. Made her miss them both. After all these years, she only had a moment to share a line with them before they were separated once more. The thought left a thorn in her chest.
"It almost sounds like they're a completely different breed of their own... Where are they now? It sounds like they're the types to fit the whispers of the smallfolk and the ravens from the coasts." Or more likely be dead if they were so impulsive... then again, how would she know?

Yeah, where were they now? Dalton honestly did not have a clue. Last he knew they were in Braavos or some place like that in Essos. Not that he visited them often anyway. Their ways just met sometimes and some time was spent together, but they had not been in the Isles for quite some time. For all he knew they might already be dead. He did not believe any such things though. Not because it was something that he just did not want to believe, no. They were just not the kind of people to get themselves killed easily.
“I don’t really know, actually. Doubt that they will even become important to any of this. They tend to stay out of the family business since it bores them I think. But I don’t think you will have to worry too much about meeting them. Father does not call often for them, even when he flirts with starting a war.” Well, at least he thought so. Until a few days ago, he would not have believed that father would slay Tullies in the streets of King’s Landing. Rationality was becoming relative fairly swiftly.
Though hopefully, some things would stay the same. For the time being, he decided to only worry about one member of this family potentially trying to catch and enslave the lady in front of him, instead of three. Dalton gave that one a curious look, but also a soft smile. “I would try to keep both of you away from my family if at all possible. Who knows what kind of bad blood they are building up with the same kind of hearsay everyone else works with.”
"It sounds like they're free to live their lives however they like while you're stuck cleaning after your father. And soon... you'll be taking his place, granted the seven kingdoms don't decide to be rid of the Greyjoys all together after what occurred at the wake." The young wolf sighed and shook her head. "If I may be so honest, you seem like someone who belongs on the sea. Not on a rock governing fools."
As her mind danced ever closer to thoughts of home, worry began to strike her once more. The repercussions of this excursion. The repercussion of her men wearing her house's colors attacking a man who would dare cause a scene at a dead man's final farewell. The repercussion of taking this side trip whilst her friend and aid spent a second longer by the side of a man who's heart felt like a crushing pit ready to engulf all in it's presence.
Maybe she should have just stayed home...
"I doubt it's in anyway possible, but it's far too late to take back whatever trust I've placed in you as we are on your boat, and headed to who knows where..." She pinched her head with her fingers and groaned softly. "I just hope this doesn't go as badly as it possibly could." She paused and looked to Dalton with a serious expression, only broken by a slight curl at the corner of her lip. "And hopefully you don't lead Lady Baratheon astray whilst we're an ocean away from home."

He simply shrugged. It would have been a lie to say that he had not thought about this multiple times before and come to the same conclusion. Ruling was not what he wanted to do. It was not what father had truly wanted to do, in Dalton’s opinion, and that might have contributed to him becoming such a loathsome creature. If ‘doing away with his house’ would not be coupled with untold misery, he would not have terribly minded it. He, his sisters, his father, none of them were made to rule fools on a rock. Yet, Dalton know in his heart that he would rather rule himself if it meant that someone worse did not. It was part of the reason as to why he was here, instead of having just run away.
Though he would appreciate it if his family did not constantly create problems for him to solve, if that was at all possible. Even if, admittedly, he was not exactly going for the easy routes himself. After having given a knowing shrug to the ruling comment, the topic of Sera naturally drew him back in. “I don’t plan to lead her anywhere, really. She did ask me to allow her to find herself, though, so I will simply be supportive of that. After all, we roped her into it. A small personal epiphany does not seem like a bad thing to get out of that.” This time, he smiled. Judging from progress so far, the young stag had already learned a lot about herself. Hopefully, she would find her true path here before she found an untimely death. Hopefully, they all would. “Not everyone can be as set for life as you, after all.”
Silence hung for a moment before Ashe spoke, eyes never leaving his face.
"I only hope she's not having an epiphany simply off what's happening right in front of her. It's far too easy to get caught up in the atmosphere. Especially when you're a sheltered girl who've yet to see the world in front of you."
Ashe wasn't making any real effort in concealing her concern for Dalton's own intentions with the lady stag, but what can she do in this situation? If she antagonized him as she unwillingly did with his parent... Well, things could turn out fairly badly.
"I suppose. I was still used for some political agenda I can't be bothered to look into you know. But that's in the past. And regardless of what you say Dalton, I only implore that you don't put any sort of idea in the young lady's head. Even when you say otherwise. You have a way of swaying ladies to action."Just as you did me. She added silently.

Swaying ladies to action. Yes, head definitely done tha.t Oh, he had most certainly done that. But for now, the lady Tully did not need to know such things. Eventually, she would realize what was going on and would simply have to accept it. That was how it had been for him too, after all. He had tried his best to be reasonable and to explain, but there was a limit as to what a mere man could do. Especially with a pretty redhead wanting him, of course.
“You know me, I try to be responsible. I made everything very clear to her and told her she would not have any obligations towards me. She will be fine. However…” He allowed a small pause to pass as he leaned back and up at the stars. There were quite a few up at the moment, making navigation easier for them. “…You can only get an epiphany from things in front of you. Her being thrust into the world like this is exactly what will help her form herself, out of the shadows of others. Granted, we are still here too, but that can’t be helped.” A shrug followed. “Getting caught up in the atmosphere is not a bad thing. As long as the latter is not designed to take advantage of you.”
A sigh escaped the lady's lips as eyes rose to greet the stars. There was not much else to do other than ensure everyone's safety. It's all they can do at this point. "Hopefully no one dies reaching that epiphany."
His words gave Ashe a reason to smile as she gave him a pointed look. "And what about you? Are you going to take advantage of the situation to the best of your abilities?" He'd already assured her of the lack of it. Though it wouldn't stop her from asking, passing the words off as a joke as she waited for his reply. She'd already resolved to trust him during this whole excursion so was there really need for small jabs like these? Were these even small?
She shook her head.
"Never mind. You've no need to answer that. Me and the lady Baratheon are in good hands after all." Returning her eyes to the brilliant lights above, she allowed the cold to fill her lungs, and remind her of the chill of the north- albeit saltier than her homeland. "I suppose you should get some rest Dalton. It's getting late and I'm sure your crew will need you come sunrise. I'll stay here a little longer. I need to think..."

“Well, I wouldn’t say that I get nothing out of it. After all, watching others grow always has an effect on oneself as well,” he replied, reciprocating the smile. Well that and the lady giving him affection of course, but he did not feel that reiterating that would be a good thing to do. Besides, it was true as well. Given that he had only really spent a lot of time around one woman who had ended up cutting ties with him in a rather decisive way, some more experience was welcome. Especially with someone whom he did not bodily desire, such as the lady right beside him.
It was pretty odd. Usually, that only happened with his sisters. Still though, he had answered that question against her wishes, of sorts, so he decided to give her the space she wanted. “I will leave you to your thoughts then. Do not stay outside for too long though. You might not feel like it, but it is rather cool here. Nights at sea can be treacherous. Make sure to not fall sick – or overboard. That would be a bit of a problem.” Laughing, he would start to walk away with that bit of gallows humour. A hand was lifted in a gesture of farewell. “Good night, lady Tully. We will talk more in the morrow. Most likely with the lady Baratheon as well.”
"It's not too bad. Tis unlike the cold of the North but it makes me feel nostalgic." A curl of her lip broke her usual stoic expression (or the not-so occasional empty smile). "If I fall, it'd be far too easy to find me in this sea of black. With all the white upon my person that is." Turning towards her host, Ashe gave him a bow and a pleasant good night. She wouldn't stay too long outside after, but just enough for her to reaffirm her conviction in chasing a such a foolish idea.
With one last prayer for safety, Ashe returned below deck, and let the rocking of the ship lull her to sleep.
